For example don’t give me like Lee Harvey Oswald. He is only famous for 1 kill.

EDIT: assassins are by no means restricted to killers of an individual, paid professional killers might be exaggerated by various entertainment media but they do exist, however an assassin undertakes the killing of a specified target, they are used to kill specific targets whether a named individual or a type of person (an officer, a policeman, for example), this is why I have selected two Second World War Soviet snipers – not those with the highest number of kills, but two who are famous. The word assassin usually refers to the person who has targeted a specific individual as his target, Lee Harvey Oswald would be such a person. When a person kills more than one person, he is usually regarded as a mass murderer, Lunatic, serial killer, etc. John Wayne Gacy would fit that description.
Assassins are those who kill a select individual for political or social reasons, like Oswald or Mark David Chapman (killer of John Lennon), once they kill that specific person, they are done, they normally dont go out and kill others. If they do end up killing others, then they might be considered serial killers (like a Gacy or Ted Bundy) or perhaps a “hit man”, a term given a professional killer for hire, who does it for the money he earns, not so much because of political or personal beliefs.
It is all a matter of semantics, different names for different types of killers, who have different motivations. An assassin is one who normally does not have multiple kills, and if he does, he would probably be referred to as something other than assassin. handymanmike
