25YearOld asked:

I’m turning 25 soon and pretty much just starting guitar. Is it too late to start a music career and perhaps become famous with it? Some honest advice is appreciated! Thanks!

No, age has nothing to do with musical talent which is all that’s required to have a career in music. However I would question your motivation and whether you’ve thought this through, since becoming famous is incredibly difficult. bigd*ckman

As I am sure you are aware, breaking in to the music industry is not an easy feat. It takes much more than talent, it required a great deal of commitment, enthusiasm, and perhaps most of all luck.

As for your age, it shouldn’t be a factor. What you should think about is the fact that you are ‘just starting’ guitar. You may feel enthusiastic about it now, but do you realize how many hours of practice you are going to have to put in just to be mediocre? To be great….well, that could take years.

There are three bands in my area that I reguarly find gigs for. Two of them, I feel, have what it takes to be ‘great’. These guys (and girl) practice together for hours EACH DAY, and most of them also work full time jobs and/or go to college. Regardless of their talent, they realize that you need a backup plan in this industry!

Good Luck. Find a mentor and stay on track with your music. Just realize the commitment you are considering making, and don’t take it lightly! Jaden R

At 25, you will need about 5 years of guitar playing just to get to the level where you can join any decent band… so you will be about 30 by the time you are good enough… and, in the case of rock bands… that is over the top age wise because your rippling muscles… won’t be rippling.

Just learn to play the guitar and see what happens… and maybe you will even grow up enough to get over that need to be FAMOUS… because becoming famous in the music industry is nearly impossible even for people who start out at an early age and have TALENT. garrisonbight

If you are just in it to be famous then you will get no where. People who do things to become famous rarely ever achieve their goal… or become infamous and disillusioned.

If you truly love what you do and want to do it then keep your day job to help foot the bill for all the best teachers, allow yourself to travel to more places to get gigs and keep hacking at it.

Do it for the love and passion of it not for an ellusive potential. Most famous people don’t like being famous. Remember Princess Diana? Sandra R
